Discover a new, slimmer and lighter PlayStation 3, which will be released in September 2009, at a reduced price and with a very extensive software catalog.
At gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. unveiled the new interactive entertainment system PlayStation 3, featuring a sleek form factor and a 250 GB hard drive.
The internal architecture of the new PS3 system has been completely modified, both in terms of the main semiconductors and the power supply unit and cooling mechanism, in order to achieve a significantly slimmer profile and a much lighter weight.
The internal volume, thickness, and weight of this model have been reduced by about a third compared to the very first model of the PS3 with a 60 GB hard drive. Furthermore, power consumption has also been reduced by a third, which helps to decrease fan noise.
While inheriting the clean and curved lines of the original model, the form factor of the new PS3 system features a meticulous design, as well as a textured finish surface, producing an impression of novelty combined with a casual appearance.
With its compact silhouette and informal style, the new model presented will appeal to a wider audience looking to acquire the best home entertainment system.
To accompany the release of the new PS3 system, SCEI will change the brand name of the PS3 from PLAYSTATION 3 to PlayStation 3, while launching a new logo, engraved on the surface of the new PS3 system.
By unifying under the famous name PlayStation (which represents the entire PlayStation family), the PS3, PlayStation 2, and PSP will continue to expand PlayStation activities, while also enhancing the entertainment offering alongside the ever-growing PlayStation Network.
The new PS3 will offer the same cutting-edge features as the current models, including the ability to enjoy movies and games on Blu-ray Disc (BD) in High Definition, as well as a variety of content and services available for download on the network.
