Among the Ardents, the flame berserkers constitute a small brotherhood who, gifted beyond their peers with the raw power of the fire element, do not seek to master or tame it, but rather to embody it.
For most of them, this transition occurs during the Dheukorro, the descent, the path of passage that all Ardents must travel to prove their dedication.
None speak of what happens in the depths, but when they return, they have changed: their bodies carry rudimentary implants that compensate for the losses they suffered from the enemy or the flames, while their Obsidian arms and the little armor they wear are impervious to the flames and heat they generate.
In their minds, the exchange is favorable: life for glory, time for valor.
This, above all other overwhelming advantages, is what makes flame berserkers such a terrifying foe to face.
Only when faced on the battlefield can one truly understand that behind the swirling flames and white-hot axes lies a being who has consciously chosen self-immolation over survival, destruction rather than preservation, the death of one's enemies at the cost of one's own.
