Dry Bowser is the undead and skeletal version of Bowser, his English name being inspired by Dry Bones.
Although he is not technically one himself, he is closely associated with them and shares several traits with the species, such as immunity to fireballs.
He made his debut in New Super Mario Bros., where he gained power following Mario's victory over Bowser by throwing him into the lava at the end of the first castle of New Super Mario Bros.
Unlike previous occasions, the lava has reduced the once powerful king to a skeleton, leaving his son, Bowser Jr., temporarily in charge of the Koopa troop.
Dry Bowser is then fought in the first castle of world 8.
